- The purpose of this study was to illuminate 14-16-year old boys’ and girls’ conception of their father in a comparison between young people who are living with both of their parents and young people who are living with their single mother, but who are in contact with their father. - The purpose of this study was to illuminate 14-16-year old boys’ and girls’ conception of their father in a comparison between young people who are living with both of their parents and young people who are living with their single mother, but who are in contact with their father. The main questions were: o How are fathers conceived by young people who are living with their fathers, respectively not living with their fathers? o Does the conception of the fathers’ differ in a comparison between young people who are living with their fathers, respectively not living with their fathers, and if so, how? o Does the conception of the fathers’ differ in a comparison between boys and girls, and if so, how? The study was conducted, using a qualitative method. Interviews were carried out with nine youths. During the interviews we used an interview guide, with questions deemed to be relevant to get information regarding the youths’ conception of their fathers. The result of the study showed that there are great similarities between the groups despite different family constellations and gender. Most of the youths had a good conception of their father. The contact with the father was showed to be of great importance for the conception, as were the age of the youth. (Less)
