Abstract
This research investigates the factors influencing prisoners to choose to participate or not in Gnistan Addiction Activities at the Halmstad Prison. The factors included in this study were the importance of network, the type of treatment model, the atmosphere of the institution, the prisoners’ definition of addiction, plus experience with previous treatment. We chose a triangulation method using both qualitative interviews and quantitative research. The qualitative interview consisting of answers to five questions was recorded for later transcription. The quantitative research was conducted with the use of the Sense of Coherence survey form developed by American sociologist Aaron Antonovsky. To obtain a comparable study, we selected five... (More)
This research investigates the factors influencing prisoners to choose to participate or not in Gnistan Addiction Activities at the Halmstad Prison. To obtain a comparable study, we selected five prisoners that took part in Gnistan and five randomly selected prisoners that did not participate in Gnistan. The research results showed that support from the Gnistan group and/or other personal networks of the prisoners´ was the largest contributing factor to the decision to participate in the Gnistan Addiction Activities.
