- Abstract
- The purpose of this essay was to study how public authorities meet and treat families with underaged children that have problems in their housingsituation, and what consequences this can result in for the children. We have especially focused on how social services can compensate children living in an insecure housingsituation and to examine whether voluntary organizations have any knowledge in the matter of these children. - The purpose of this essay was to study how public authorities meet and treat families with underaged children that have problems in their housingsituation, and what consequences this can result in for the children. We have especially focused on how social services can compensate children living in an insecure housingsituation and to examine whether voluntary organizations have any knowledge in the matter of these children. Another important aspect has been to find out if there are any formal guiding principles for public authorities according these families, and how authorities interpret the concept of childperspective. The study was based on seven qualitative interviews with representatives from governmental and municipal levels, as enforcement authorities and the social services, and with representatives from voluntary organizations and the area of homelessness research. Our conclusions of our study are that the childperspective is seen as an important aspect by the persons handling these families but there are boundaries regarding giving priority for the children because of lack of resources and appropriate housingalternatives. You can also identify a tendency among the individual handling officers, to base their decisions on an emotional and informal aspect, than on the existing formal guiding principles. (Less)
