- The aim of this essay was to try and reach an understanding of the difficulties one encounters when working with people who are drug and/or alcohol abusers and who simultaneously suffer from a mental disorder of some kind. My method has been to try and find organizations that direct their work towards people with abuse problems and/or mental disorders in Lund. I found six people who were willing to be interviewed, who all work in some way with this social problem. I also studied research on this matter. Drug abusers with severe mental problems are probably the hardest group of clients to work with as they often have a chaotic social situation as well. They meet public organizations that have insufficient resources and who, furthermore, have problems cooperating regarding these clients. The psychiatric department is often reluctant to treat them and the social services lack sufficient psychiatric knowledge. (Less)
