We asked open questions in order not to restrict the answers and instead invite the professionals to speak freely on the topic. By comparing the interviews and studying... (More)

We interviewed professionals who work at eight treatment units in a comparative study. We asked open questions in order not to restrict the answers and instead invite the professionals to speak freely on the topic. By comparing the interviews and studying literature focusing on causes and treatment we came to the conclusion that anorexia nervosa is a disorder with multiple causes that is treated with a variety of methods. Vulnerability was mentioned as a common trait with the anorectic patients which might cause the development of the disorder. The systemic family therapy is the most frequently used treatment method at the units in question. (Less)
