- Abstract
- Purpose: The political management of health care in Region Skåne, has been the subject of criticism due to irrational government. The situation has been described in media as a lack of faith in the politicians. Furthermore professional representatives also described experiences that political decisions are sometimes seen as complicated factors in the running of everyday care-giving activities. The purpose of this study was to examine politician’s experiences of basic conditions in govern of health care, and how politicians understand their responsibilities as employers. Questions at issue: - How do politicians understand the conditions concerning their responsibilities as employers? - How do politicians in the Produktionsberedning define their responsibilities as employers? - Which issues do the politicians in the Produktionsberedning consider appropriate for them to be responsible for as employers? Results: Nine politicians in the Produktionsberedning were interviewed during the spring of 2002. All of them were of the opinion that they had a responsibility as employers. This responsibility involved the political task to make resolutions concerning comprehensive objectives and directions. A majority considered their conditions to govern were limited and that there was a lack of basic data for decision-making and follow-ups. Representatives from the opposition parties generally had a more critical attitude concerning the present political organization.
