Abstract
The purpose was to investigate the situation of African immigrants coming to the southern coast of Spain. Also to find out if the situation at the border changed somehow the last years, since EU started to increase the control at the borders to countries outside the union. From which countries do the immigrants come? How do they come to the border? How are they received at the border? How is the situation in the region for those who manage to enter? Has the amount of immigrants arriving to the coast changed since the harsher controls at the borders the last years? The investigation is mainly based on interviews with different NGO:s, but even on other investigations and statistics. Most of the people arrived from Morocco and sub-saharian... (More)

Has the amount of immigrants arriving to the coast changed since the harsher controls at the borders the last years? The investigation is mainly based on interviews with different NGO:s, but even on other investigations and statistics. Most of the people arrived from Morocco and sub-saharian countries. Most crossed the straits by rafts, but many were also smuggled or hid in boats or trucks. Many were directly sent back because of agreements with Morocco and Nigeria. Many also stayed illegal in the region for a long time, trying to receive work and residence. The organisations meant there was no big change in the amount of people arriving the last years. According to the government the amount of people had decreased. (Less)
