- Abstract
- This study aims to understand the circumstances needed for diffusion of the innovation Basta. By doing a case study of the establishing of FUNK in Gothenburg, I wanted to find explanations for successes and failures in the diffusion process, and see what role the goal of empowerment played in this process. I found that the innovation Basta has a high degree of relative advantage and compatibility as it is economic, and offers a long-term solution that can be challenging for the individual. For those that are used to look at the problem of drug abuse as one that needs traditional "treatment" given by "experts", the innovation may be less compatible. For those that are used to look at the problem of drug abuse as one that needs traditional "treatment" given by "experts", the innovation may be less compatible. It requires a different approach from local authorities, as it strives for independence. Bastas existence has increased the innovations triability and observability for both sponsors, clients, and the founders of FUNK. The innovation Basta is not a complex innovation, in the way that it would be difficult to understand. But it requires entrepreneurs with a lot of endurance and creativity to find initial resources. I found the frameworks of Basta well in line with empowerment methods. However it is important as the innovation diffuse, as well as in the ongoing work, to keep a focus on enabling leadership in order to guarantee empowerment for "the little man". (Less)
