- Abstract
- Unemployment among immigrants in Sweden has lately been exposed as a problem in mass media. One of the reasons is that it´s been noticed that many immigrants with university education are unemployed or having jobs they are over qualified for. I chose to investigate unemployment among immigrants in the community of Helsingborg. Helsingborg is a town in the south of Sweden. Helsingborg as a community has approximately 118 500 citizens. - Unemployment among immigrants in Sweden has lately been exposed as a problem in mass media. One of the reasons is that it´s been noticed that many immigrants with university education are unemployed or having jobs they are over qualified for. I chose to investigate unemployment among immigrants in the community of Helsingborg. Helsingborg is a town in the south of Sweden. Helsingborg as a community has approximately 118 500 citizens. The purpose is to illuminate unemployment among immigrants in the community. The questions at issue - How is the situation among unemployed immigrants in the community of Helsingborg? - What measures are taken considered unemployment among immigrants in the community of Helsingborg? - How is the unemployment experienced by the unemployed immigrants? Methods I´ve been using primary data as interviews with informers and respondents and also secundary data as litterature and earlier surveys. The survey is based on a qualitative method to find out opinions and ideas about unemployment among immigrants. Quantitative data used to find out information about population and unemployment related to immigrants. The results of the survey were that professionals the Employment office and the Social Services (dpt. for social security) are optimistic about their progressing work with unemployed immigrants but the unemployed immigrants them self have an overcome attitude to find a job and to be self supported. The major reasons to unemployment were lack of knowledge of the swedish language and so called old or inadequate education(s). (Less)
