- Abstract
- The aim for this master thesis is to give an overall view of Göinge during the Iron Age 500 BC-1050 AD. Göinge is an area in the Northeast of Scania. Göinge was before a hundred but consists today of two hundreds. The area is not well-investigated compared with South Scania. There are more than 9000 ancient monuments from all time periods within Göinge. Some research has been done earlier but the need for a larger study exists. The purpose of this thesis is also to illustrate that from an interdisciplinary view the picture of the archaeology become hopefully more accurate when different sciences are combined. The rivers Almaån and Helgeån seem to be the most important “roads” for people to travel in Göinge. Why the people during the Iron Age lived in Göinge is unknown but is probably related to natural resources such as iron, hides, timber and honey. The area can also have been used for herding cattle, sheep and goats. It is mostly the agricultural areas that were inhabited. But from the late Iron Age people started moving to the forested areas as well. (Less)
