Abstract
This thesis is a discourse analysis of the policy report, “Sweden in the world” produced by the Swedish globalization committee. With a social constructionist foundation, the aim of the study was to uncover any potentially existing tensions or ambiguities in their statements and representations. By examining how the committee characterize and constitute the globalization and the social reality I conclude that there are a number of tensions and ambiguities in the report.

This tensions and ambiguities concern their characterization of the globalization as an external inevitable constrain and their policy suggestions, as well as the description of the world order. The described version of globalization results in two quite different world orders: one based on hard competition between the countries of the world, and one based on mutual dependencies and cooperation. In the end the committee and other political actors also seem to contribute to the construction of what the committee describes as globalization, which seem problematic because they also describe it as an inevitable external constrain.
