The purpose of the essay is to examine explanations offered by both police and social workers for street robbery committed by juveniles. These findings have been analyzed using hypotheses suggested by Merton´s anomie/strain theory and Hirschi´s social bond theory. By using the aforementioned theories and by interwieving people from different professional backgrounds we were able to fulfill the purpose of the essay using two different perspectives. By using the aforementioned theories and by interwieving people from different professional backgrounds we were able to fulfill the purpose of the essay using two different perspectives. Both police and social workers consider material gain in the form of cash or objects to be primary objective of juvenile street robbery, whilst the long-term objective is more concerned with gaining respect. Factors considered to be the root of juvenile street robbery according to the police and social workers are segregation, lack of parenting skills, negative peer pressure, low formal control and poor school attendance.
