- Abstract
- Title: Do you hear my feelings? The purpose of this work was to find out in what extent the intentions and feelings of a performing musician reach the listener. To look into this I let a musician perform a piece. The performance was recorded and the recording was played to a group of listeners, in this case three students at the education of eurhythmics at Malmö Academy of Music, that were to react spontaneously to the music with
motion. This was recorded on a video. A discussion with focus on the intentions and experienced feelings was carried out with the musician as well as the listeners right after the performance respectively the playing of the recording. A discussion with focus on the intentions and experienced feelings was carried out with the musician as well as the listeners right after the performance respectively the playing of the recording. The motion was analyzed and compared with both discussions. During my work I came to the conclusion that the part of the performance that consisted of dynamics, phrasing and both rough and fine changes in the energy went through to the listeners in a clear and subtle way. However it was more difficult to determine whether specific feelings were communicated to the same extent. I also came to the conclusion that it was difficult to decide with the method used whether the awakened feelings originated from the interpreters or the composers work.
(Less)
