Abstract
The production of core material/blocks is divided in multiple steps. Before the hardening
process the blocks are placed horizontally in stacks of 10 on a pallet. Between each block
plastic spacers are placed to insure a spacing of 5 – 8 mm in between the blocks. This is
done to achieve a better water flow and cooling efficiency in the hardening chamber. The
use of plastic spacers complicates work out in the production line, occupies a lot of space
and has a tendency to clog the water supply line in the chamber.
Purpose of this thesis is to design a rack in which the blocks will be placed vertically and
by doing this it will eliminate the use of plastic spacers as well as increase the water flow
in between the blocks in the chamber.... (More)

Purpose of this thesis is to design a rack in which the blocks will be placed vertically and
by doing this it will eliminate the use of plastic spacers as well as increase the water flow
in between the blocks in the chamber. The rack should be designed in a manner which
will ease the block handling.
The end product is a welded design which consists of hollow square steel tubes. The rack
is stackable and could be handled with a forklift from both sides. The racks sidewalls are
removable and can be produced in various sizes to fit the wide assortment of core
materials.
The conclusion of this project is that it should be carried on and implemented although
further practical tests should be conducted. First of all the core material should be
thoroughly tested to se how the curing has being affected by the new way of handling.
The end result is that the handling is improved, less physically demanding and the use of
plastic spacers has been eliminated. (Less)
