Abstract
The project started with a section called Clarification Of The Task. The purpose was
to investigate how big of a problem domestic flooding is and what the cause is. This
was done by gathering information from different organizations and companies. Once
we knew the problems we tried to understand the water systems that are the main
failure in households. Now when we know the problem and understand the sytem
around, it is easier to decide what product that has the best possibilitues to be
commercial successful. We came up with three ideas and presented them in a meeting

together with the stastics was causes flooding. A decision was made to go on with a
product that will be installed on the pipes to monetor water movement. At this stage
the product describtion is farely general and the next step is to perform customer
needs and target specifications to understand more exactly what the product should
do.
The second section is named Conceptual Design and in this part the product gets
more and more definit. This is done by generating different ideas that corresponds
with the brief from the previous section. We also looked at different suppliers that
could provide us with the parts of the product that is not produced in-house. Other
steps that was performed in this section are DFMEA, benchmarking and concept
testing. This is very important to make sure that we have considered everything in the
design, are better than the competetives and are meeting the needs and expectations
from the customer.
The last section in the report is called Embodiment Design and this is where the
concept idea is turned into a design. The main purpose with this is to get the pricing
for the injection moulding tool, but also get an idea what the product will look like.
All the units need circuit boards to communicate with eachother and to approach a
electronic company we need to have an estimated size of the circuit boards. All this is
done in the chapter called 3D modelling for initial costing. Two other important parts
of this section is to establish what the manufacturing of the product will cost. The
economic analysis is taking care of this and is most important fact behind the decision
to take the product to production or not. We also set the final specifications and try to
establish the market size in this chapter. (Less)
