Cost Reduction of Drive Unit

Abstract
The purpose of this project was to reduce the production cost of the drive unit from AB Ph. Nederman & Co product Flowline with 50 % to make it more competitive, and the result is this report as well as a fully operational prototype. During the process I have looked into all of the functions of the existing product and have tried to improve them. The function which I have put most time and effort into improving is how the friction wheel and the track work together, and it’s also the part where the biggest progress can be seen.

During the process I have looked into all of the functions of the existing product and have tried to improve them. The function which I have put most time and effort into improving is how the friction wheel and the track work together, and it’s also the part where the biggest progress can be seen.
The photocell is replaced with a micro gap switch, making the product less costly and easier to install and repair. The circuit card is replaced with a simpler one, ensuring that every function works properly. The function that makes the trolley halt when the hose is in motion is also significantly simplified, without affecting its safety and reliability. On the prototype the friction wheel is constantly in contact with the track, which makes the most costly part unnecessary. By having the friction wheel at the side of the rail, instead of its original position at the lower side, reduces the noise that the friction wheel makes. The effectiveness of the gear used is higher than before, making it possible to use a “weaker” motor.
All the individual improvements either fulfil the demands on the product, or make them easy to fulfil with some minor changes. (Less)
