- Abstract
- Micro credits have been given lots of attention worldwide since 1970, when Muhammad Yunus began his journey in Bangladesh, developing microcredit-program to fight poverty. Using micro credits as a tool, fighting poverty, is at the time a very popular method and has been widely accepted. In 2006 Yunus received the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts in creating economic and social development.
This study is to examine if micro credits are an effective tool to strengthen women’s position in society and her role as a mother and wife, also if micro credits is an important tool in liberating force in societies where women have to struggle against oppressive social and economic conditions.

Nussbaum and Amartya Sen’s theory ”the capabilities approach” is applied in this study and will help understanding the role of the individual being and its increasingly important role in the fight against poverty.
