Abstract
This thesis discusses the question whether it can be justified that the xenophobic party “Sverigedemokraterna” is not allowed admittance to the Swedish schools. In order to answer that question I present what the curriculum says on civic education and I construct three normative ideals, a Liberal, a Communitarian and a Marxist, from ideas from political thinkers such as Mouffe, Gutmann, Etzioni and Brighouse. I mainly use information material from The Swedish National Agency for Education and the National Union of Teachers.
The result of my study shows that according to the Liberal ideal you cannot refuse “Sverigedemokraterna” admittance since it threatens the legitimacy of the curriculum. From the Communitarian point of view you can exclude them by referring to the common good. The Marxist ideal provides the answer that antagonistic conflict must be avoided at any cost, and consequently a ban of the “Sverigedemokraterna” from the schools can be justified because they promote xenophobia.
