- Abstract
- This is an investigation of the FIFA World Cup 2010 and effects on housing rights in Cape Town. South Africa has a harsh history of displacement of people and the government has, because of that, promised that no one will be displaced because of the sport event. The government is also promising a lot of opportunities for the population in the entire Africa. To investigate how mega-events affect housing rights other sport events are looked at, such as Olympic Games in Atlanta and Beijing. The result shows that Cape Town have done a massive displacement in a project called the N2 gateway but has not offended the housing rights in the construction work of the new stadium. FIFA are working to protect human rights but hasn’t helped South Africa... (More)
