By comparing how proportionally centre and periphery are represented in the local government in municipalities with constituencies and municipalities without constituencies, in municipalities of varying geographical extent and in municipalities which vary in how important the main town or city is, the effect of the above mentioned factors on representativity in local government is shown.
The main results of the study are that the presence of constituencies will not increase the proportionality of the local government, that the larger the municipality is the more proportionally are centre and periphery represented, and that the higher relative importance of the municipality’s main town or city is the more proportionally are centre and periphery represented.
