To examine this we used a qualitative method and interviewed nine social workers in five different municipalities in the south of Sweden that had seen an increasing number of clients during the last year. The analysis was based on a theory about Human Service Organizations and also on the theoretical Human Resource-perspective on how to view organizations. The result shows that most of the departments was given increasing resources in the form of new staff but also that the social workers in one office were being overused by its organization. The result of this is that all of the social workers that participated in this study feel negative stress in their work situation. Despite this, they all reported to enjoy their work. When it comes to the ability to reach the organizations goals the social workers reported to achieve this but at the same time concerns about the future were mentioned. The ambiguousness of the goals was confirmed as a potential problem. Due to the increasing number of clients the social workers in most of the municipalities have had to spend less time on meeting the clients. It is this work that the social workers finds most meaningful. (Less)
