Before a reunion is possible a certain amount of changes is required by the parental roles. These changes can possibly be achieved with the support from the social services. The parents must be aware of what changes that is required from them and thereby support in these matters is received for the benefit of a reunion.
The purpose of this paper has been to investigate how the social services, based on the applied laws and specific needs for the birth parents, are handling issues concerning support to birth parents that has children in custody care.
We have been using a qualitative method and performed eight semistructured interviews of managers within the social services in the region of northwestern Skåne.
To be able to analyze our collected material we have used Bronfenbrenners ecological systems theory.
Our result shows that within the social services, there is a need for support functions to birth parents and this specific support is important to carry out a reunion.
Furthermore our results show that different municipalities always state that they support the birth parents but the lack of time is a parameter always opposing the intended support. (Less)
