Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine the nursing auxiliaries’ experiences before, during and after the implementation of Alsterbromodellen. The implementation of Alsterbromodellen meant that home care staff and residential care staff got consolidated and performed the same tasks. More specifically the aim was to find out how Alsterbromodellen has made an impact on the nursing auxiliaries’ work role and working conditions through a Human Resource perspective. We also wanted to examine how the merge of the two different working groups took place. One reason why we choosed to examine this specific case was that the im-plementation were met by skepticism and requirements to maintain the original model. To get a wider level of understanding... To get a wider level of understanding we have placed the nursing auxilia-ries’ experiences of the implementation of Alsterbromodellen in a context of na-tional changes that have had an impact on the nursing auxiliaries’ working role and working conditions. Our empirical evidence is based on qualitative retrospective semi-structured interviews with ten nursing auxiliaries’. We have throughout the interviews learned that the opinion about the new working routines have gone from skepticism to acceptance. The conclusions that we have drawn from our study is that the nursing auxiliaries’ ongoing skepticism towards the new working routines were caused by lack of information from the decisionmakers such us politicians and managers. The skepticisim towards Alsterbromodellen and the new colleagues have faded through the years which we believe could be explained by that fact that the organizational structure has been formed to fit Alsterbromodel-len. That has made it possible for the staff to full fill their working routines in accordance with Alsterbromodellen. Alsterbromodellen has also meant that the nursing auxiliaries working role generally has gone from solo work towards col-laborative work. This is to some extent explained by the fact that home care staff got colleagues when they got consolidated with the residential care staff through Alsterbromodellen. Alsterbromodellen has also meant that the former residential care staffs have started to reflect on the care takers integrity in greater extends than before. We have also learned that the nursing auxiliaries’ work role have been clearer. This has been made through specified aid decisions and clearer documentation around the care takers. (Less)
