- Abstract
- Up to 20 years ago the norm in Europe was that domestic service industries such as telecommunications, internal air service, and mail was characterized by legal monopolies. Internationalization and the need for increased competition as a means to promote growth and consumer benefit, has meant that more and more markets have opened up to new entrants. This has been the reason for the deregulations that took place in Sweden in the 1990s. The deregulations were though associated with entry barriers and it proved to be difficult to establish effective competition in markets that were previously legal monopolies.
