- Abstract
- This Master thesis treats development studies of an elevated light fixture from Pre study to prototype. The project is carried out in cooperation with Safegate Interna-tional AB and the Machine Design Department at the University of Lund. Throughout the project a combination of the methodologies, Ullrich and Eppinger’s “Product Design and Development” and Pahl and Beitz’s “Engineering design, a systematic approach” was used.
The project starts by identifying customer needs and establishing target specifications. This is made to identify what properties the light fixture needs to fulfill to be successful on the market. The project starts by identifying customer needs and establishing target specifications. This is made to identify what properties the light fixture needs to fulfill to be successful on the market. The light fixture was then divided into sub problems to make it less complex. Each sub problem was solved separately. After several iterations with concept generations and evaluations one design occurred of each sub problem. The winning concepts were finally put together as a unit.
Numerical analyzes of heat transfer and mechanical strength was carried out in CF-Design and ANSYS Workbench to validate that the concept fulfilled the require-ments. Both of the software uses the Finite Element Method to solve the problems. During this phase details of the design were changed to optimize the structure. When the detailed design of the light fixture was completed the production documents were sent to Wirén och Persson specialplåt AB, Fosie mekaniska AB and Aluwave AB. They manufactured a prototype of the light fixture. (Less)
