Abstract
The biopolitical agenda hosts some of the most heated debates in the current
political situation. Despite the fact that it is a field of growing relevance for society, few have heard of the ideologies and idéas that constitute biopolitics. This might be explained by the insight that biopolitics is still breaking relatively new political ground. As we slowly progress towards the future, the importance of biopolitics will, however, grow bigger. Being the political spectrum that reflects various positions towards the sociopolitical consequences of the biotech revolution, the time for further noticing its potential is now. The biopolitical agenda hosts some of the most heated debates in the current
political situation. Despite the fact that it is a field of growing relevance for society, few have heard of the ideologies and idéas that constitute biopolitics. This might be explained by the insight that biopolitics is still breaking relatively new political ground. As we slowly progress towards the future, the importance of biopolitics will, however, grow bigger. Being the political spectrum that reflects various positions towards the sociopolitical consequences of the biotech revolution, the time for further noticing its potential is now. In this paper I approach the two most prominent ideologies within biopolitics. My ambition is to pinpoint their occurring idéas, to understand them in a historical context and pursue a critical analysis of the withheld idéas. The analysis maps out the two biopolitical ideologies, bioconservatism and transhumanism, and points out various strenghts, flaws and irrational arguments that can be found in their display of various idéas.
