Abstract
This study aims at reaching a greater understanding of how people with high self-evaluation feel, think, function and relate in everyday life. On the basis of earlier research within mainly psychodynamic and cognitive theories, the study authors have tried to mirror what the Narcissus of today may see in his or her reflection. The participants consisted of 388 students, 182 men and 206 women, recruited at faculties of Lund University. These people answered a questionnaire created on the basis of DIP-Q personality form and ten people (three women, seven men) who fulfilled the criteria for high self-evaluation were interviewed. Semi-structured interviews were then implemented at the faculty of psychology at Lund University. The study has a... (More)

Semi-structured interviews were then implemented at the faculty of psychology at Lund University. The study has a qualitative, hermeneutical approach and the material was analyzed by thematic analysis. 71 (18%) of the participants met the criteria for high self-evaluation, these consisted of 49 men (69%) and 22 women (31%). The analysis of the ten interviews resulted in eleven themes that capture a recurring dynamic within these persons. The authors have given the themes following names: Achievement-seeking, Stress and demands, Fear of failing, Surface-attraction, Need for control, Need for uniqueness, The grandiosity dilemma, Excitement-seeking, Dichotomy thinking, Lack of empathy and The father relation. Abstract (Swedish)
Studien... (More)
