- Radical or oppressed? A study of how Muslim women are portrayed in media
The aim with our study is to analyze how Muslim women are portrayed and imagined in Swedish media. The study is based upon a number of articles from three big newspapers in Sweden. As a method we have chosen to use text analysis in combination with literature studies. Our aim is not to criticize media in a negative way but rather to emphasize their big role in affecting the general public and problematize the picture of Muslim women generally provided in media.
The main result of the study is that the dominating picture provided of Muslim women in media is a negative one, in which she is described as either "oppressed" or "extreme" and "dangerous". (Less)
