Abstract
Daring to walk towards the unknown - a qualitative study of recovering from an eating disorder

A common conception amongst people suffering from an eating disorder is that there is no recovery from the disease. Therefore the purpose of this study was to examine the possibility of being completely well from an eating disorder. More specifically its aim was to find out what factors may be crucial for a recovery. Our study was based on interviews and autobiographies which were analyzed qualitatively. As our theoretical basis we used the theories KASAM and Beck’s cognitive model. To get a fair description of the whole recovery process, we based our study on two different kinds of perspective: one focusing on the former sufferers thoughts... (More)

To get a fair description of the whole recovery process, we based our study on two different kinds of perspective: one focusing on the former sufferers thoughts and the other focusing on the clinical opinion. In our result we found that sufferers from an eating disorder have excellent hopes of recovering. In the end of the study we found two main conclusions: one was that its important for the recovery process of an eating disorder that both the physiological and psychological aspect of the illness are treated and the second was that it’s important that the sufferers wants to recover.
