Abstract
Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people are discriminated against all over the world on a regular basis today. To love or be sexually attracted to someone of the same sex and act upon it is a legal offence in several countries and in a few countries it is considered to be such an offense that it is punishable by death. The standards on how to treat sexual minorities differ greatly between the countries in the world today and the view on how to approach LGBT people and their human rights are up for discussion in the UN.

The purpose of this thesis is to examine which prospects there are to include LGBT-peoples protection against discrimination and their rights as international human rights in the UN. How is the situation today and how is the resistance against these rights formed and why?
This thesis presents a general view of the active legislations concerning this matter today and a closer look at the resistance. In that way I hope to get a better understanding of the possibilities for these rights to be incorporated and accepted as international human rights.
