Abstract (Swedish)
(More)

(Less)
Abstract
Title: The School in the modern era – a comparative study of student impact.
The present study investigates chosen perspectives of modernity inspired by Claes Ericsson, and how these can relate to the design and practising of student impact at two colleges with special music education. The core question of the study is: How can similaritites and differences in student impact between two studied colleges with special music education be understood by theories of modernity?
The study is based on qualitative methods. The data consists of individual interviews, recorded in the mp3 format and transcribed into text, including statements made by teachers and students from the two participating schools.

The result indicates that the greatest difference between the schools lies in how the respondents talk about student impact, how it is addressed and how much scope it is given. In reality, impact after all does form in similar ways at both schools. The result also describes other differences between the schools, while the theories of modernity unites and somewhat can be seen as representing the similarities between them. The theories of modernity help to make the result understandable although there are instances when the result refutes the theories. (Less)
