- Abstract
- The aim of this master thesis is both to investigate how risk analyses in the layout design phase of railway tunnel projects today are done and to advise how the safety thinking of complex infrastructures could be improved in the future. The thesis is based on case studies of three Swedish railway tunnel projects in Göteborg, Malmö and Stockholm. The thesis is limited to examine sudden risk scenarios and particu- larly risk management in the operational phase. Economic aspects are only discussed qualitatively. Input to the case study has been collected throughout studies of litera- ture, documents and interviews. One major conclusion is that risk scenarios that have been analyzed in the layout design of railway tunnels are generally... (More)

Input to the case study has been collected throughout studies of litera- ture, documents and interviews. One major conclusion is that risk scenarios that have been analyzed in the layout design of railway tunnels are generally concerning direct and local strains on the system. There is a reason to believe that system boundaries are specified too narrow, hence failing to identify important risk scenar- ios. (Less)
