Abstract
In this thesis I try to find out the motives behind the former king of Bhutan, Jigme Singye Wangchuck decision to democratize Bhutan. I do also try to find out and which motive that has actually been the crucial one behind the democratization. To do this, I have used a method based on Axel Hadenius models for the discretion of motives and rationalistic decision-making.
The result of the essay proclaims three possible motives. After trying these motives in Hadenius model for rationalistic decision-making and a minorcorrespondence test, two of the motives tend to appear to be more likely. Although I consider myself to find reasonable results, I would like to emphasize that the analysis and results of this essay are strongly influenced by my subjective thinking and interpretations, therefore, the results should not be seen as a final truth and explanation of the democratization of Bhutan. It should rather be seen as a suggestion and a first step of hopefully a more exhaustive explanation to the democratization of Bhutan in the future. (Less)
