Abstract
In the last years the use of lightweight fire fighting vehicles has become more common in Swedish fire and rescue services. These vehicles need some kind of suitable fire extinguishing system. The purpose of this report is to assist the fire and rescue services with information for the decision about which system to use. Six different systems (CCS Cobra, DSPA, Firexpress, Oertzen, One Seven and a dry chemical fire extinguisher) were tested against a full-scale room-fire to evaluate the extinguishing effect. In the last years the use of lightweight fire fighting vehicles has become more common in Swedish fire and rescue services. These vehicles need some kind of suitable fire extinguishing system. The conclusions are that it is necessary to define the purpose of the unit that will be using the system in order to make a good decision about which system to use. The fire tests indicate that the water mist systems are good for quick cooling of the fire gases. On the other hand it seems that the risk for re-ignition is bigger with water mist systems unless the water spray directly hits the burning surfac. CAFS seems to cool the fire gases at a slightly slower rate, but instead gives a lot better protection against re-ignition. Författarna ansvarar (Less)
