This report is a part of a mandatory course within the engineering programme in Fire Safety at Lund University. The objective of the report is to conduct a fire safety evaluation of the senior citizen nursing home Arlövsgården in the rural district of Burlöv. The evaluation focuses on

run through CFAST, a two-zone computer model, in order to obtain crucial outputs regarding the development of the fires and how they influence the surroundings. The simulations are compared to hand calculations. The simulated time it takes for untenable conditions for egress to occur is compared with the estimated total time for evacuation of the facilities. The estimation of the evacuation time is based upon computer simulations using ERM and hand calculations with support from earlier research on the subject. Depending on the outcome of the scenarios different alterations are suggested in order to meet the demands from regulations. (Less)
