Abstract
This report is a fire safety evaluation with focus on evacuation of Stenungstorg, Stenungsund, Sweden. The object is a shopping mall combined with apartments and offices. The personal safety has been evaluated for the built-in street, and compartments connected to it, along the west side of the building. The mall was constructed in stages from 1966 and
was finished in the beginning of 1990. Today the mall contains 62 shops.
The evaluated part is designed as one fire cell since the street was not originally built-in. No documentation of the existing fire protection is available. The fire preventing systems and the evacuation organisation were studied during a visit at Stenungstorg. After discussions five possible fire scenarios were... (More)

The personal safety has been evaluated for the built-in street, and compartments connected to it, along the west side of the building. The mall was constructed in stages from 1966 and

The evaluated part is designed as one fire cell since the street was not originally built-in. No documentation of the existing fire protection is available. The fire preventing systems and the evacuation organisation were studied during a visit at Stenungstorg. After discussions five possible fire scenarios were chosen. The consequences have been analysed with calculations and with computer models. The time until critical
conditions occur has been compared with the time for evacuation of humans.
The main conclusion of this report is that evacuation cannot be completed with satisfaction before critical conditions occur. Suggestions for improvement of the building’s fire safety are included. (Less)
