- Abstract
- This report is a fire safety evaluation of the Manilla school in Stockholm and is written upon request by The National Property Board.
The Manilla school is an elementary school for children and youths with sense impairments, such as hearing and sight disorders. The project is initialized by a visit at the school where class-instructors and the schools security manager participates. The project is later based on documentation such as measurements, blueprints and photographs from the visit. Personal safety is the main protective goal in the report. Whether this goal is obtained or not is evaluated by using a simplified risk analysis to divide the activity into representative fire-scenarios.

The central method used for the evaluation named above is calculations and estimations of whether the time required for evacuation falls short of the time where critical conditions are assumed to occur. Tools used in the report besides accumulated knowledge from previous classes are computer software such as CFAST, DETACT and Simulex. The overall assessment of the results from named simulations and calculations are that the school- activity constitutes a from fire-safety perspective acceptable risk with some exceptions. The report suggests that the system for early detection of fire should be extended to include all classrooms, offices and such premises. Tentatively this will be done by installation of smoke-detectors. (Less)
