Abstract
In this study, the initial aim was to combine the roles as teacher and researcher in a project called “The Inner Teacher”. The teacher-researcher wanted to study if, and in that case how, organ students on an academic level had access to an inner teacher when approaching a written piece of organ music. The study was interrupted by the fact that the teacher-researcher failed to act as planned when conducting the study, and thus did not acquire the necessary data. Instead of pursuing the original path, the study turned its focus to why the teacher-researcher failed in her intentions and to the reasons behind this. The anwers were to be found partly in the complicated combination of roles when teaching and researching at the same time, and... (More)
In this study, the initial aim was to combine the roles as teacher and researcher in a project called “The Inner Teacher”. The study was interrupted by the fact that the teacher-researcher failed to act as planned when conducting the study, and thus did not acquire the necessary data. Instead of pursuing the original path, the study turned its focus to why the teacher-researcher failed in her intentions and to the reasons behind this. The anwers were to be found partly in the complicated combination of roles when teaching and researching at the same time, and partly in the unconscious
teacher-discourse which “operated” through the teacher. When studying this, a surprising side-effect was new knowledge concerning the teacher´s own teaching, which developed new teaching methods and strategies. It is argued that researching your own teaching presents a certain and unique
source of information about the teaching-learning process, and questions about further areas to investigate are put forward. (Less)
