- Abstract
- All over the world ice is melting as a result of the increased temperature. The sea ice at
the poles is getting thinner and glaciers are retreating. The Arctic has been studied
during hundreds of years but it was not until the 1970’s the sea ice extent could be
surveyed properly with remote sensing. The most common method to investigate the
sea ice extent is with passive microwave satellite sensors. Due to the trends from many
studies the sea ice extent is decreasing and many signs indicate a faster decrease of sea
ice in the future. The increasing temperature is the major reason to the deglaciation, but
there are many different mechanisms that could be part in the fast melting. A warmer
climate affects streams in both the ocean... (More) - All over the world ice is melting as a result of the increased temperature. The sea ice at

transport the ice southwards were it melts. The deglaciation affects humans as well as
animals and plants, but also the earth in a bigger perspective. (Less) - Abstract (Swedish)

(Less)
