Abstract
The influence of a small valley on the air temperature has been studied in the Kungsmarken nature reserve, five km east of Lund. The development of cold air during clear, calm nights has been the main topic and the survey is a part of a project at the Department of Physical Geography, University of Lund, concerning the construction of a computerbased model to determine the development of cold air in hilly terrain.

The influence of a small valley on the air temperature has been studied in the Kungsmarken nature reserve, five km east of Lund. The development of cold air during clear, calm nights has been the main topic and the survey is a part of a project at the Department of Physical Geography, University of Lund, concerning the construction of a computerbased model to determine the development of cold air in hilly terrain.

thermometer
The results show that the valley is big enough to be able to have an impact on the air temperature. The influence is most important during the nights, when a cold air lake is built up in the valley. It's upper surface seems to be situated between 6 and 9 meters above the valley floor. The measurements also indicate that a downflow of cold air is taking place along the valley sides at night. During the day the valley only seems to influence the temperatue in the lowest portions of air (0.1-0.2 m), while the temperature higher up in the air seems to be more wind dependent. (Less)
