Abstract
In this essay I have examined the factors that may be underlying the fact that the co-operation between the Trade Union Confederation, LO, and the Social Democratic Workers Party, SAP, in Sweden is still strong. My results were that both the Social Democrats as well as the trade union movement are at its strongest in Sweden and therefore also the exchange is stronger for a partnership for both parties. The legitimacy of the co-operation, which mainly consists of the majority of LO's members still voting for the Social Democrats in general elections, still exists in Sweden, while in Norway and Denmark it has fallen below a threshold of fifty percent. The fact that the labour movement is stronger in Sweden than in neighbouring countries can be explained by corporatism still being more prevalent in the Swedish society than in Denmark and Norway.
