Abstract
For centuries the superhero has stood as a beacon of everything that is right and just. There is however an inherent conflict in the activities of the modern superhero that puts his or her modus operandi into question with regards to human rights. It is the purpose of this thesis to try and ascertain whether or not the superhero acts in concordance with basic principles of human rights. To achieve my purpose I have performed a narrative analysis of a select number of superhero-movies. My conclusion is that even though the superhero does, to some extent, work in accordance with general values of human rights he does so by violating the very rights that he strives to protect.
