- Abstract
- This essay portrays the prison system through interviews regarding the experiences of former prisoners. These different experiences of the prison system and the effects on people and society are being interpreted from an intersectional perspective. The method of the essay is based on four different interviews with four different ex-convicts that have experienced being punished in Swedish prisons. The analysis of this essay is based upon the interviews and the website of Kriminalvården (the Swedish Probation). But the analysis also discusses other ways of relating to the different power dynamics that distinguish punishments. - This essay portrays the prison system through interviews regarding the experiences of former prisoners. These different experiences of the prison system and the effects on people and society are being interpreted from an intersectional perspective. The method of the essay is based on four different interviews with four different ex-convicts that have experienced being punished in Swedish prisons. The analysis of this essay is based upon the interviews and the website of Kriminalvården (the Swedish Probation). The power structures are at focus in this essay and they are looked upon through theoretical perspectives. As a result the essay shows how different power structures cooperate and what effect this can have on prisoners. The essay shows how the prison system is relevant from economic perspectives, nationalistic perspectives, gender perspectives etc. The standpoint is the ”strangerness” as ”the otherness” that characterizes the prison system and its promised enhancing effects on this ”strangerness” to obtain and maintain the ”right” and ”normal”. These power dynamics are expressed in forms of discrimination and abuse. (Less)
