Upplevelser av KBT i grupp: avhoppade patienter berättar
(2012) PSPT02 20112Department of Psychology
- Abstract (Swedish)

(Less) - Abstract
- Reasons behind patients’ decisions to unilaterally terminate Cognitive
Behavioral Group Therapy (CBGT), and whether the experience of the
therapy was related to the termination of the treatment were examined.
In addition to this, the patients’ expectations on the treatment prior to commencement and patients’ experiences of the treatment were
examined. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with seven
former patients who unilaterally had terminated their CBGT.

Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) was used to analyse
the interviews. The results suggested that the respondents’ experiences
of CBGT were largely influenced by the group and the other group
members. Several of the respondents stated that they were relieved by
learning that their difficulties were shared by other patients in the
group. One respondent did however state that this experience
deteriorated the mental health problems. The majority of the
respondents terminated their treatment due to external difficulties or
due to a combination of external difficulties and the mental health
problems of the patient. In a couple of cases the termination was a
direct result of negative experience of the group therapy. (Less)
