bestämda av World Health Organization (WHO).

Ingen arsenik upptäcktes i pyriten. (Less) - Abstract
- The groundwater in parts of Danmark (Sjælland) is known to exceed the World Health Organizations
limits for arsenic and nickel contents in drinking water according to the Danish Geological Survey (Flindt Jörgensen,

has found exceeding contents of arsenic. Therefore, this study investigated pyrite in view of the mineral’s known

nickel in the groundwater as well as host to arsenic according to several Danish investigations.
The sampled material is from the Citytunnel project in central Malmö and is made up of very pure limestone
with nodules of flint. After the separation of pyrite a semi-quantitative analysis was carried out using a scanning
electron microscope with X-ray detector Hitachi S-4300N at the Geological department at Lunds University. Calculations
of the amount of pyrite per kg showed that close to 85 tonnes of pyrite has been exposed to oxygen during
the work on the tunnel. It is the oxidation processes that will release trace elements that can become a health risk.
The results of this study show an association between pyrite and the nodules of flint. There are three different
morphologies of pyrite. In the first morphology, euhedral crystals, there are several included minerals consisting
of nickel, zinc and cupper. In the second type, pyrite in aggregates with dolomite and flint, as well as the third type,
pyrite shaped in biogenic burrows and holes, only a small number of inclusions are observed. No arsenic was found
in the pyrite. (Less)
