Abstract
The construction department in Sweden is responsible for 39 % of our total energy consumption and it is therefore very important that the people that are involved in the construction industry in different ways try to reduce this energy-usage. Even though the development has come a long way regarding the energy consumption in new-built constructions, is the area of construction that we build each year equal to less than one per cent of the total area that all our buildings cover. To reduce our energy-usage is it therefore in a way more important to focus on making our existing building more energy efficient than it is to develop the technology that we use when we build new constructions. To reduce our energy-usage is it therefore in a way more important to focus on making our existing building more energy efficient than it is to develop the technology that we use when we build new constructions. You have to be aware of what parts that is involved in a buildings energy balance to be able to make it more energy efficient. These different parts size can vary a lot depending on how the building is composed, how it is used and where it is placed. It is the size of these parts that decide what the energy consumption of one specific building will be. There are a lot of different measures you can use to make an existing building more energy efficient but it is important that the things you decide to perform is profitable. Every building is unique which makes it possible that one measure, performed on two different houses might result in two totally different sizes of energy savings. The building that this report has chosen to review is an apartment block from the 1940s. Suggestions to measures have been reported. Measures that would make the building consume enough energy to meet the demands that is set on new-built buildings in the same area. These measures are also profitable. (Less)
