The purpose of this study was to examine what employees having temporary employment contract, experience. I used a qualitative approach in which I conducted eight semi-structured interviews with women between the ages of 24-33 years old. All of these women were working in the field of behavioral science and had a temporary employment contract. The study answers the following questions: What advantages and disadvantages are employees having temporary employment contract experiencing with their employment? What is emphasized as important questions regarding their employment? The results show that several of the women feel uncertain about what will happen in the future and that a temporary employment contract might make it difficult to plan for the future, both at work and in their personal life. Moreover, the supervisor had a central role at the workplace and most of the women were expressing a lack of communication with their supervisor. The conclusion is that a temporary employment contract is an advantage for some of these women since they are able to get experience and try different workplaces. However, some of these women feel uncertain about the future and what is ahead of them, which causes stress and uncertainty for them. Furthermore, an uneven workload, feeling “new” and not having influence, feeling like their skills are not being valued, effected their motivation negatively. (Less)
