Kontrollprogram vid avfallsupplag : en utvärdering
(1996) In Examensarbeten i geologi vid Lunds universitetDepartment of Geology
- Abstract
- Groundwater control monitoring programmes are
established at sanitary landfills to document that
the ground water, and surface water, are not being
polluted by the landfill. The first part of this paper
(a literature review) discusses the principal elements
of a groundwater control monitoring programme,
with focus on control principles, location
of observations wells, or monitoring wells, indicator
parameters, control cards for data evaluation,
as well as leachate quality and quantity. The literature
review showed that the design of a groundwater
control monitoring programme depends
upon local conditions - such as hydrogeology and
sensitivity, and characteristics of landfill leachate.

Landfill leachate quality data are dependent upon
degradation stage(s) of the landfill (e.g. acid phase,
methanogenic phase), and attenuation processes,
such as dilution, despersion and sorption.
Landfill leachate quantity data are dependent upon
climatic factors and infiltration rates. In the second
part of this paper (part II) the ground water control
monitoring programmes at two landfills in
southern Sweden (Filborna and Rönneholm) are
evaluated. The evaluation showed that location of
observation, or monitoring wells are of great importance
to establish if groundwater or surface
water are being polluted. (Less)
