Abstract
In this report, I investigated possible actions to reduce energy consumption for heating a house in Örnskoldsvik built 1955th. Is it possible to get down to low-energy-rating? Is it reasonable given the costs it entails? The alternatives studied are additional insulation in the basement, wall and the attic, replacement of windows and installation of heat recovery ventilation. After evaluating the different measures, results were two options presented.

In this report, I investigated possible actions to reduce energy consumption for heating a house in Örnskoldsvik built 1955th. Is it possible to get down to low-energy-rating? Is it reasonable given the costs it entails? The alternatives studied are additional insulation in the basement, wall and the attic, replacement of windows and installation of heat recovery ventilation. After evaluating the different measures, results were two options presented.
Option 1 is focused on saving as much energy as possible while Option 2 takes into account costs. Option 1 means that additional insulation inside the basement, inside and out of the ground floor, replacement of windows to the Elite Passiv, extra insulation to the attic floor and install a FTX-system, this option would save 34 625 kWh per year which means 31 336kr per year. The cost of this option amounts to 505 667kr. The repayment period is 16 years. Option 2 allows extra insulation to the ground floor interior, replacement windows to the Elite Complete Trä, extra insulation to the attic floor and installs a FTX-system. This option costs 243 559:- and the payback period is 10.7 years. Of all these options in action, I would recommend that first of all, extra insulation to the attic then install a new ventilation, preferably an FTX-system that recovers heat from exhaust air. This is not just to save energy but to control the ventilation and better air quality indoors. With these measures, the house is not down to the low-energy-rating such as passivehouse or the like. Taking the other hand, using solar or geothermal, it is possible to get down to these ratings. (Less)
