Abstract (Swedish)
(More)

(Less)
Abstract
The research paper presented here completes the undergraduate geological studies at the University of Lund, Sweden. The work was performed at Studsvik Energiteknik AB (at the Studsvik Nuclear division, the NPE-group), at Studsvik 25 km northeast of the town of Nyköping and about 90 km south of Stockholm.
The work forms part of a research and development project called "the Recipient evolution project", that is performed by the NPE-group. It involves both field work and laboratory studies. The area investigated includes the lakes Sibbo- and Trobbofjärden. These lakes were former part of the Baltic Sea. The work forms part of a research and development project called "the Recipient evolution project", that is performed by the NPE-group. It involves both field work and laboratory studies. The area investigated includes the lakes Sibbo- and Trobbofjärden. These lakes were former part of the Baltic Sea. They are studied to determnine the distribution of various elements and radionuclides of sea sediments (nowadays represented by the drainage system of the lakes) as well as of recent sediments.
The work reported here mainly concerns the granitic bedrock within the area. The main task has been to study the REE distribution (Rare Earth Elements).
The rocks have been mapped and sampled. The samples were analysed with the instrumental neutron activation analysis method (INAA) at Studsvik.
The rocks in the area were formed and repeatedly deformed during the Svecofennian orogeny (1800-2000 million years ago). The rocks were migmatized and folded during these deformational and metamorphic episodes.
All samples have low chondrite normalized REE values (0.1-500) and chondrit normalized patterns with weak, negative slopes. Eu and Yb usually show small to moderate negative anomalies.
The various types of rocks (granitic or non-granitic; early Svecofennian or late Svecofennian) have similar patterns of chondrite normalized REE distribution, but samples from two sites (ST 2 and EV 2, repesenting a dolerite and a marble respectively) do not show the usual enrichment in LREE. The chondrite normalized pattern from site IN l (monzogranite) seems to be completely different from the other ones, probably because IN l represents a strongly migmatized rock. Conclusions are uncertain since the absolute values for many of the REE:s in this sample are below or very near the detection limit. (Less)
